Flat Rate or Pay by the Gigabyte? Here Is the Honest Math

Shopping for a mobile proxy, you will run into two ways of getting charged. Some companies bill you for every gigabyte you push through their network. We charge one flat price for a phone line that is yours alone, and you can use as much data as you want. Neither setup is a scam and neither one is right for everybody. So instead of a sales pitch, here are the dollar amounts side by side, a couple of real examples, and a clear answer on when you are better off buying from somebody who charges by the gig.

How each one sends you a bill

With the metered kind, usually sold as mobile residential, you are buying access to a big crowd of other people's phones. Quite often those phones got enrolled because somebody installed an app with a proxy kit tucked inside it. Each time you connect, the service picks one of those phones for you, maybe keeps it for a few minutes, then moves you along. You pay for the traffic, not the phone, and you never get to pick which phone it is.

USAProx works the other way around. You rent one actual piece of hardware (a USB modem, a small router, or an Android handset) running on its own Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card, and nobody else touches it. You pick the carrier and the city when you check out, depending on what we have in stock there. Your price is the same whether you move one gigabyte or five hundred, because every USAProx plan comes with unlimited data.

Put the two price lists next to each other

For the metered side we are using a real American company's public prices as of September 2026. We will not name them, but the numbers are typical: $20 buys one gigabyte, $40 buys two, and $300 buys a 25 gigabyte bundle, so the bundle works out to $12 a gigabyte. Our prices are $5 a day, $28 a week or $65 for a month of 4G, and $6, $31 or $75 for 5G.

Here is where they cross. Divide $65 by $20 and you get 3.25, so once you go past about three and a quarter gigabytes in a month, the flat line is the cheaper deal. Even if you buy the metered company's big bundle, $65 divided by $12 is about 5.4 gigabytes. On 5G those numbers are 3.75 and about 6.25 gigabytes.

When you should go with the meter instead

We would rather lose a sale than have you overpay, so here it is. If all you do is log in a few times a month to check something, and it adds up to a few hundred megabytes, per-gigabyte pricing will cost you less than any monthly plan we sell. Go that route.

Same thing if you need proxies in other countries. We only cover the United States: Houston, Phoenix, Chicago, Boston, Miami, New York City, L.A. and the North Carolina area. Nothing overseas. And if you are running one quick test that you will never repeat, a metered account or our $5 day plan will do the job without tying up a month.

What a normal month looks like for one of our buyers

Take a two-person ad agency in Ohio that runs local search and social ads for a roofing company in Houston and a dental office in Phoenix. The owner wants to see the ads the way a person in that city sees them on a phone: are they showing, is the address right, does the landing page load fast on cell data. She checks every morning and pulls a screen recording once a week for each client.

That habit burns more data than people expect. Video, images and ad scripts add up, and she lands around 20 gigabytes a month across both clients. On a meter that is $400 at the single-gig price, or $300 for the bundle with a few gigs left over. With USAProx she keeps a 4G line in Houston and one in Phoenix, since Phoenix is our strongest Verizon market, and pays $130 a month total, no matter how many recordings she makes. If she ever needs Chicago for a new client, she moves a line there herself from the dashboard, and the move costs nothing.

Things the price tag does not tell you

Cell carrier IPs are shared by a lot of regular folks at once, because carriers put many phones behind one public address. Websites know this, so they look at how you act more than at the address itself. With your own line, you show up from the same carrier and the same city every day until you decide to change it. You can change it whenever you like, too, by clicking a button, calling a link, or through our API, with no limit on how many times and no waiting in between.

Speed is steady and predictable because nobody else is on your device: 4G usually runs 20 to 45 Mbps and 5G usually 50 Mbps or more, depending on signal. You get both HTTP(S) and SOCKS5, and UDP over SOCKS5 if your software wants it. Your login details for every line sit right in the dashboard, so setup is copy and paste.

The bottom line

Figure out roughly how much data you really use. Light, occasional, or outside the US? Pay by the gigabyte and do not look back. Using more than three or four gigs a month in American cities, or needing the same phone to show up day after day? A flat-rate line saves money and headaches.
